Garcia could usurp Woods at Doral

Spain's Sergio Garcia could replace Tiger Woods as world number one by winning the WGC-CA Championship in Miami, which starts on Thursday

Woods will be taking part in his first strokeplay event since returning from an eight-month injury lay-off.

And if Garcia wins at Doral and Woods finishes 27th or worse, Garcia will take over at the top of the rankings.

Second-ranked Garcia is yet to win a major despite several close calls, but he will again be among the favourites at next month's Masters.

Woods has been world number one for the past 144 weeks and has won 15 World Golf Championships since the elite events were launched in 1999, six of those coming at Doral.

After his astonishing play-off victory over Rocco Mediate at the US Open in June, Woods enjoyed a lead of 11.328 ranking points over second-placed Phil Mickelson.

But following his return to the PGA Tour, at last month's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, Woods now leads new world number two Garcia by just 1.59 points.
