5/2/2008
Home favourite Ignacio Garrido hailed the nine under par round of 63 which saw him set a new course record at Real Club de Golf de Sevilla and establish a commanding lead on day two of the Open de España as “the best golf of my life”.
Garrido carded nine birdies in a sparkling round of golf which bettered by two shots the score of overnight leader Martin Erlandsson of Sweden, who had set a course record on the opening day with a 65.
Erlandsson is in second place on 11 under par, after a second round 68 which featured an eagle three at the fifth hole.
But the Swede is still four shots behind Garrido, who is seeking his first European Tour title since his triumph at the BMW PGA Championship in 2003.
Garrido’s morning exploits put the pressure firmly on Erlandsson to maintain his recent form, and the Swede duly obliged with another sub-70 round which extended his streak of consecutive cuts made to 11 – a European Tour record.
